The Avishai Cohen Quintet
Avishai Cohen is well recognised over the years for searching out and introducing a new generation of young talent to his music and to his worldwide audiences and fans. Many of them have gone on to achieve and create their own path in music with much success.
In the upcoming touring seasons in 2025-26, Avishai will again introduce a new generation of rising stars on stage, whom are connected to Avishai and his musical influence.
This hand-picked lineup will perform new Avishai compositions, fan favourites and a few surprise tunes during the set, exposing the young, fresh talent and all their versatility..
Introducing Itay Simhovich on piano, 21 years old, a highly talented pianist who Avishai recently discovered and who will be touring with him for the first time. And Yonatan Voltzok, a young big band leader and composer, whose powerful trombone solos have impressed mentors such as Jimmy Heath and Slide Hampton. The saxophonist Yuval Drabkin recently supported Avishai with his unmistakable sound in recordings for film music and is very present on Avishai’s latest album “Brightlight”. And finally to complete the 5tet, a new addition on drums, Eviatar Slivnik, who is based in New York, whom has his own unique sound and energy.
The five musicians are gathered together, and the color and brightness of the stage lighting provide a superb setting for this concert based on “Brightlight,” the album released on October 25, 2024. Saxophonist Yuval Drabkin already played on this album. His unique playing is instantly recognizable, so let’s make an effort to remember his name, Yuval Drabkin. Together with Yonatan Voltzok, a trombonist with remarkable tempo, they bring a sublime, intense musical expression to the stage
Always on the lookout for new talent, he has brought two young musicians into this quintet: Itay Simhovich, a pianist in his twenties, and Eviatar Slivnik on drums. The new generation is incredibly talented! Such promise, such rhythms, such unfailing generosity. They played as a trio and took us far away, beyond our usual habits, with fast tempos. Amazing!
Remember Avishai Cohen’s inimitable intros, his physical relationship with his double bass, and words that touch the heart: Courage, Hope, titles of compositions from the album
